Puppies

All of our 2025 puppies have gone to their new homes and we are going into a semi-retirement period with no current breeding plans. We have two adult children in Nebraska and our youngest is a junior in high school, so we would like the freedom to travel right now. This is our fifteenth year straight of breeding Wirehaired Pointing Griffons and breeding requires considerable time at home. This isn’t a permanent closure, just a temporary pause. We’ll keep our social media and website updated as to when we have some breeding plans established.

While we prefer hunting homes, since we’ve moved to an area with limited hunting we’ve opened our puppy home selection to non-hunting active outdoors homes.  Please keep in mind that in order to have good behavior as a pet in the house, these dogs need daily exercise and some sort of extended hike every few weeks.

One of our puppies comes with at least two rounds of de-worming, first vaccinations, tails docked, dew claws removed, and microchipped.  The only veterinary care that I do myself is the de-worming, all other procedures are done by a veterinarian.  The veterinarian certifies the health of the puppies leaving my kennel.  The dogs come with AKC and NAVHDA limited registration papers (allowing you to register and name the dog, but not have breeding rights) and a 3-year health guarantee against fatal genetic defects or hip dysplasia.

The puppies are exposed to live birds, dead birds and early noise conditioning. Once they are 5 1/2 weeks old they are exercised outdoors twice per day. They ride in a car and have crate and leash exposure prior to leaving my home.

I do breeder picks of the puppies, but you pick your gender.  You can give a preference of personality, coat length, color, etc., but ultimately the decision lies with me as to which puppy you take home.  I try to make everyone happy and take the location and lifestyle of the family into consideration.  I have never had anyone complain about my breeder picks.

Breeding Rights: In order to breed the dog upon adulthood, the following criteria have to be satisfied:

  1. The dog has had an OFA or Penn-HIP hip x-ray that shows no signs of hip dysplasia.
  2. The dog has successfully passed one of the following hunt tests: a) The NAVHDA Natural Ability Test b) An AKC Junior Hunter title (4 passing legs) has been earned.

The future of the breed depends upon the quality of the dogs breeding.

The puppy needs to be picked up at my home in Clover, South Carolina at eight weeks old.  Eight week old puppies could possibly be taken as a carry-on item in a flight, please talk to your air carrier about their specific policies. I am 30 minutes from Charlotte Douglas International Airport.  Due to the additional restrictions placed on weather for puppy shipments, I am unable to offer air cargo services.

I do not place puppies in apartments.  This is a sporting breed and the dog needs to have greenspace outdoors and proper shelter, with ample attention from its people.  Indoor/outdoor is ideal.  This is not a porch dog.  It will not sit on your porch and stay on your property.  It will find something to hunt if left unattended and unkenneled outdoors and you will lose your dog.  A collar with your contact information bolted to it is recommended (not tags hanging loose, as those get lost).

I’m interested in a female if you have any left. I’m a grouse and pheasant hunter and occasional ducks/geese. I have two small kids and live on water and would like to be on the wait list if no pups are currently available. Thanks,
    Mike

      Hi Adam,

Sorry I missed your calls today, I was either outside or on the phone with other folks. I have actually already placed the puppy in a new home. My next breedings will be in Spring 2016. Thanks for contacting us.
