Obi was selected by pedigree out of a small breeder in Wyoming. He is distantly related to all of our foundation stock, but most closely he has a great-grandparent that is the brother of Sam’s sire and one of his great-great-grandparents is our Mae. Obi has the kindest temperament of all of our males thus far. We are hoping to take him farther in hunt testing in the future. He has already wild bird hunted both upland and waterfowl extensively in Nebraska and was the dog that our youngest son shot his first rooster over. Obi is the whole package: hunting ability, stamina, healthy, cooperative and just a fun dog to be around.

AKC/NAVHDA Little Lady Aspen NA II “Mae”
Hip Certification: OFA Good
Hunt Testing: NAVHDA Natural Ability Prize II
Height at shoulder: 22 in.
Weight: 58 lbs.
Coat: Medium Dense/Medium Harsh, midlength for the breed. 2 inch long body coat and 2 inch long head furnishings
Mae was acquired from That’s My Point Kennels of North Dakota in December of 2011. As she was raised in a another family of small children and had received a Prize II on her NAVHDA Natural Ability test, we knew she would fit in well at our kennel. She has a strong nose and will to locate game and kept up pace with our rigorous hunting schedule.
Her bloodlines are dual hunt and show lines from the southeast and the west coast. Mae whelped numerous NAVHDA Natural Ability placing dogs and we look forward to her influence in our bloodlines for years to come. She retired with my brother in Valentine, Nebraska but has since crossed the rainbow bridge at the age of 15.

AKC/NAVHDA Sweetgrass Sandhill Sioux “Sue”
K-Locus: KBKB
Height at shoulders: 23 inches
Weight: 60 lbs
Coat: Dense/Medium Harsh, on the shorter end of the breed spectrum. 1 inch long body coat, 2 inch long head furnishings
Sue was our very first Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, purchased out a one-time breeding in northwestern Nebraska. Sue’s greatest gift is her strong natural retrieve, not only bringing you downed game birds, but she always has to be bringing you something. If there’s dirty laundry on the floor, she will pick it up and bring it to you. Sue, like all of our griffs, is extremely loving and attentive. She’s spent many years traveling the Great Plains in search of game birds and a number of seasons as a guide dog on a local pheasant preserve.
Her bloodlines are out of the old hunting kennels of Montana, Michigan, and Western Canada. She retired with a rural family outside of White River, South Dakota, but has since crossed the rainbow bridge at the age of 17.

AKC/NAVHDA Sweetgrass Plainsman Samson UT III “Sam”
Hip Certification: OFA Good
K-Locus: KBKB
Height at shoulder: 24 in
Weight: 70 lbs.
Coat: Medium Dense/Medium Harsh, midlength for the breed. 2 inch long body coat and 3 inch long head furnishings.
NAVHDA Utility Test: Prize III
Sam has been a family pet and hunting star here since he was a pup, purchased from Mark Stevens out of Yankton, South Dakota. He’s a very affectionate animal (he loves to kiss, even strangers), hunts hard and is a very strong swimmer and natural retriever. He has guided many preserve hunts in past years and is trained not only on finding, pointing and retrieving upland, but will also sit in a blind or jump hunt for waterfowl, tirelessly working for the water retrieves.
Sam is also a proficient stud and has yet to have a breeding “not take”, meaning that he has always covered the females enough to guarantee pregnancy. He has sired all of our litters, none of which have produced any defective puppies.
His bloodlines are out of old school hunting griffon kennels in Wisconsin, Michigan and Iowa. He retired to a farm in Kentucky where he was tragically killed in a collision with an ATV not long after.
